Blog Assignment 1

I tend to believe that humans are not inherently violent.  Just as a person has to be taught what to fear, I have always felt that people learn such things as violence; from, the people they interact with, and their surroundings.  And if you simply removed these negative influences a person would be free from violent tendencies.

As far as a need to make war is concerned I do not believe in that either. I think humans are naturally peaceful beings, that would rather not resort to harming each other. War simply happens when every other reasonable option has either failed or been ignored.

I definately beleive in the phrase "product of one's environment" We see it in the news and we read it in the paper, how adolescents under the age of 18 are committing adult crimes. Our youth of today are fighting with and losing to each other, especially those living in the inner city. Where and how do these children learn such bad behavior? I was riding the green line on tuesday and three boys, no older than 11 were using such profane language. Then one of the young men harassed a young girl(an aquaintance of his) by grabbing her neck and calling her the B word. Although he was joking, he had a serious look in his face that a child his age should not have had. His dialogue hinted that it was oh so common. I could tell that he had probably. He probably had witnessed his mother being physically abused by some male. Do I know this for certain? No, but I do know that physical abuse is a repetitive and cyclical attribute. Just like other forms of violence, its something that is learned from past experience.
