Before your doing your reading assignment for this week, did you know about the massacres—or genocide according to most scholars—of Armenians in the early 20th century? Do you think that this is something that you should have known about? Why do you think that you didn’t know about it? Do you know about any art dealing with this moment in history? If so, briefly discuss the art. This art could be visual art, film, music, etc.

All Should Know
I must admit,just hearing the title of the subject matter did not jog my memory. As I read the material, it stirred up a glimmer of thoughts. I do remember learning about this in high school, although we did not cover this subject very long. I think I should know more about this and I shall continue to read. I believe the old phrase "knowledge is power." I think I really didn't know how severe these massacres were. As far as the art of the period, I'm not really an authority, but I've seen some of the photos of the time. They project so much suffering and pain. More than care to speak about.
